ZHU JINLAN
BASIC INTRODUCTION
Zhu Jinlan is an perceptive young woman who is also a creative and talented seamstress. She is the third and favourite daughter to a Lord that so desired to keep her close that he would fend off marriage offers and was aiming to have her wed someone who would come and work within his own household. However, he also managed to thoroughly anger the absolute worst person you can incite a grudge in, Fa Zheng, who, in seeking his revenge against Lord Zhu, found this out.
When Fa Zheng began to court her, seeking her company in the streets and very obviously attempting a seduction, Zhu Jinlan shortly after became aware of what he was doing but found him charming despite his foul reputation and would humour him with conversation and her spare time, not really intending to let it go further... but, over time, this had the effect of gaining a more genuine interest from him.
Finding herself falling for him in return as he made a more thorough attempt at knowing her, Zhu Jinlan found herself gradually becoming isolated from former friends who feared him and, as the effect grew worse and worse, began to realise how much of a mistake she was mistaking...
DETAILS AND HISTORY
Story:
WIP
Appearance:
The 'images' section at the bottom currently contains screenshots from the designs I created for her in DW9: Empires. This accurately captures her face and hair, but not so much her outfits. Her 'canon' looks would be more unusual and striking most of the time than what Empires has to offer, though what is there will do for now. Certainly you might consider it a 'base.'
She has a rounded face, full cheeks and is nearly always to be found wearing beautifully made clothing and interesting accessories appropriate to her rank, though the longer she gets into her marriage the less of the latter she tends to wear. Her fondness of brighter make-up styles lessens as the years pass as well.
This is still being worked on, so consider it a WIP!

CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS
- FA ZHENG: Zhu Jinlan's beloved, later on her husband. Fa Zheng initially sought to seduce and draw her away from her father as revenge for a slight Lord Zhu made against him, but came to genuinely desire her and made sure they would end up wed. She is deeply in love with him, but also carries a lot of resentment towards him because she knows what he did and yet still wants to remain at his side.
- LORD ZHU: Her beloved father. They had a close relationship and Lord Zhu originally wanted to have her marry someone who could move into their home and work for him, purely to ensure they would not have to be separated. Zhu Jinlan loves her father, but comes to fall for Fa Zhang too deeply to ignore his advances and plots despite slowly realising what's going on. They continue to write to one another but, after everything that has happened, there is obvious strain and unresolved emotion that severely undercuts their relationship.
MISCELLANEOUS
- Born from an exploration of Fa Zheng's rather dark and unsettling Dynasty Warriors 9 bond lines. The love IS mutual but incredibly unhealthy, and Zhu Jinlan is very aware of this fact.
- Really enjoys making clothes, and is rather good at and creative with it. She used to make clothing for friends and family but, after her marriage, now mostly makes it for herself, her husband and her handmaidens. When she's stressed or upset, you can guarantee you'll find her in her dedicated room for the purpose trying out something particularly unusual with absolute single-minded focus... that is, if she hasn't locked the door to stop others disturbing her.
- She's perceptive, the sort of person who is genuinely tuned into her surroundings most of the time even when it seems otherwise. But picking things up doesn't always mean understanding them, and she isn't always so good at that part without a lot of time and thought.
- Fond of birds, and has developed a good knowledge base around them from active bird-watching over the years.
