KORIAT

BASICS

NAME: Koriat CLASS: Forge Cleric of Gond/Battlesmith Artificer RACE: Elf (High/Sun)
BACKGROUND: Guild Artisan HEIGHT: 5'3" AGE: 120

A muscular and heavily scarred elf with a burning urge to perfect his craft and create 'true beauty' in his metalwork. Koriat is genuinely eager for his creations to make the world a better place even on a small scale, and is interested in people but not particularly good at understanding the unwritten rules of formal situations. Better when it comes to practical matters and quick to offer guidance and direction where he sees fit, he is also notorious for having a rather filthy sense of humour and excellent tolerance for alcohol, as well as being one of the most chilled-out and difficult to fluster people you'll ever meet.

Art really is very important to him, and when it comes to such things (be they visual, written or sound-based) his gentler side seeps out, but that's also the only obvious part of himself he seems insecure and uncertain of himself in. This insecurity is what brought him to Baldur's Gate ten years ago and to his current employer and teacher under the advice of his previous master. Whether he can reach the goals he had set for himself remains to be seen, particularly as the situation in the city starts to grow incredibly volatile...

DETAILED BACKSTORY

Koriat showed from quite a young age an interest in the arts, but also what he considered art of a more practical kind; metalsmithing. To begin with he was rather clumsy (this shows all over his body), but time and practice gave him a defter hand and better control of his forge. That youthful clumsiness, however, seems to have contributed to a lifelong lack of confidence in his ability to make 'beauty' out of what he does.

To combat this he left his home the moment he was considered old enough to do so and wandered until he came across the wares of a dwarven weaponsmith, which were a little different to any he'd seen before, though he couldn't pinpoint exactly why this was. Desiring to get to know the 'artist,' Koriat met with, talked with, pushed a little and eventually was given a position within the Master's forge. This resulted in a deep and genuine friendship that was unexpected for both of them, but it helped to direct Koriat's life. The Master's advice is what led to Koriat seeking the advice of Gond through prayer and worship, eventually leading to him taking up the mantle of a Cleric. Having by this point spent several decades in his company, Koriat eventually decided to bid farewell to the dwarf he loved like an older brother, though without yet understanding what it was about the Master's work that had drawn him in so.

Wandering for a while in search of inspiration, Koriat eventually returned to pay his Master a casual, friendly visit, and was given some choice advice as well as an offer: go to Baldur's Gate and spent some time there with a clever friend, enjoy the city and perhaps find some cause in the chaos so common to it. And this is exactly what Koriat did. Ten years passed filled with research, invention, study and guidance, and in time he felt much more accomplished, though yet to hit 'fulfilled.'

MAGICAL CAPABILITIES

Firstly, here are the purely mechanical cantrips, spells and related skills; they reflect a level of 9. This cannot be fully reflected in BG3 itself, as Koriat's forge subclass does not exist within it, and some of his subclass spells also not present in the game. Same deal for his 3 levels in Artificer (his overall level being 12).

As a Cleric, Koriat's powers are (mostly) drawn through his commitment to his deity (in this case, Gond). So long as he keeps up his part of things he'll retain access, which considering his nature and goals will almost certainly remain the case. There's a couple of magical tricks inherent to him through his elven blood as well, and exploring artificing has widened the kinds of magic he has access to.
